Bro. Herman Williams Sr. rose through the ranks to become the first African American fire chief of a major United States city (Baltimore, MD).  During a time of deep-rooted racism, he managed to struggle through the hardships to become highly decorated and respected.Through his efforts Bro. Williams helped raise the consciousness of the community about fire safety and what individuals could do to make themselves and their family safe,” Bro. Williams also organized a number giveaways of smoke detectors, efforts that led directly to decreases in fires and saved lives.
